Burnley U18s recently spent an afternoon shopping for goods needed by the Club’s officially charity, Burnley FC in the Community.
All players from the Club’s U21s and U18s squads pledged money into a collective pot, with the U18s then heading to Tesco Extra in Finsley Gate, close to Turf Moor.
Armed with shopping lists detailing the items that the foodbank was most in need of, the scholars split up into small groups and navigated the aisles to find the best value.
When finished, second years Oli Pimlott, Frankie McMahon-Brown and Luca Jackson and first year Kian McMahon-Brown then headed to the foodbank’s base in Charter Walk Shopping Centre.
There they helped unload the seven large trolleys worth of goods, took a tour of the facility and learnt more about how the service works from Foodbank Manager, Nathan Norris.
Reflecting on the afternoon, Pimlott said: “We wanted to pull some money together to help people who might not be as fortunate as us.”
“It was a good experience, with the foodbank getting a lot of stuff in and doing a lot of great work in the community.
“I enjoyed going round Tesco to find the foods that had the most nutritional value for the best prices, as well as the ones that lasted the longest.”
