Burnley FC in the Community has partnered with Tesco Extra in Burnley to launch new food donation stands, supporting local families facing hardship.
The charity first launched its foodbank in early 2021 in response to rising need during the COVID-19 pandemic. By July that year, the initiative, run in partnership with Burnley Together, had already supported over 10,000 people, including thousands of children.
Today, demand remains high, but donations have dropped by more than 90%. Burnley FC in the Community now purchases the majority of its food supplies to continue feeding over 12,500 people annually.
If you’re doing your weekly shop, please consider picking up a couple of extra items and placing them in the donation trolleys located at the top of the escalator as you leave. Every contribution counts, food donations have fallen by 99% in recent years, and your support can make a real difference.
Tesco Community Champion, Mukhtar Mirza said: “Here at Burnley Tesco, we’re proud to team up with Burnley FC in the Community to tackle hunger locally. This partnership reflects our commitment to building a more resilient and nourished community. Through this collaboration, Burnley Tesco now hosts a permanent collection point for the foodbank, where customers and staff can donate non-perishable items. We’re excited about the positive impact this initiative will have across Burnley.”
Foodbank Manager, Nathan Norris added: “Now more than ever, we’re relying on donations to help feed families in Burnley. The need is growing, especially as we approach Christmas, and we’re doing everything we can to ensure children don’t go hungry. If you’re passing one of our Tesco stands, please consider donating, every item, no matter how small, makes a huge difference.”
