This week, Burnley Football Club and Burnley FC in the Community had the pleasure of hosting Sarah, Duchess of York at Turf Moor.
Helen Gurman, Chief Executive Officer of Burnley FC in the Community, provided the Duchess with an overview of the 50 local community projects covering Education, Sport, Welfare, and Inclusion.
After the discussion, the Duchess took a tour of Burnley FC in the Community’s foodbank and the Community Shop, Downtown, operated by Burnley Together. During the visit, the Duchess gained first-hand insight into the extensive support offered to individuals and families in the community.
Sarah, Duchess of York said: “I’m here to support an extraordinary organisation.
What they do, is not just about football – it’s football, youth clubs, it’s sport! It’s about unity in the community and it’s about making change through giving respect and dignity to people.”
Also, in attendance on the day, were representatives from interfaith organisation Building Bridges, the Club’s chosen charity partner for the 2023/24 season.
“So, I thought of coming to Burnley to meet Burnley Football Club and to see the schools and to get to know them. It’s Building Bridges. It’s not about race, creed or colour or any other denomination. It’s multi faith. It’s about our future. It’s about respect and putting Burnley even more on the map as an example to the nation of change.”
