Alfie's story
How long have you been attending Premier League Kicks?
I have been attending for 1 year. I first attended the session at Burnley High School before coming to the Leisure Box in Brierfield every Friday night.
What do you like most about Premier League Kicks?
I really enjoy coming to play football with my friends and having a laugh with coaches. When I first started coming, I had just moved from Manchester and had no friends. Since coming to Kicks I have made lots of new mates and gained loads of confidence.
What’s does Premier League Kicks mean to you?
The coaches at Premier League Kicks have welcomed me in since I moved and helped me so much through personal struggles. I am so grateful that I came that first time.
What opportunities has Premier League Kicks offered you?
When I first moved to the area, I was out of education due to moving around a lot and difficulties at home. Despite this, I was still made to sit my GCSE exams. I came to Kicks and spoke to Kim (a coach) who helped with my exam revision weekly and printed me past exam papers so I could revise at home. Lewis (PL Kicks Manager) also encouraged me to join the Burnley shadow youth team when I started college and helped me to get a place on the course.
What is your favourite thing about Premier League Kicks and why?
My favourite thing about Kicks is seeing all of my mates, especially the ones I don’t get to see during the week at college. I also really like seeing the coaches, they make me feel really welcome and like I’m part of the family. The thing I love the most about it is just playing football.
What have to learnt / developed whilst attending Premier League Kicks?
I have grown so much since attending Kicks and going to college. I have matured so much as a person, I am no longer in bad crowds and I have such a better way of life now. The workshops that Kicks have are really helpful and get me to think about my decisions and influences. If I didn’t attend the session and meet the coaches who have supported me, I don’t think I would be in as much of a good place as I am now.
