Students at All Saints High School, Rawtenstall enjoyed an unforgettable afternoon as Josh Laurent and Marcus Edwards made an appearance to visit Burnley FC in the Community’s Premier League Inspires programme.
The Charity’s Premier League Inspires programme, funded by the Premier League Foundation, supports young people aged 11–18 who may be at risk of not reaching their full potential. Through mentorship, positive role models, and engaging activities, the programme helps students build confidence, develop essential life skills, and navigate their journey through education and into early adulthood.
The excitement was clear the moment the players stepped into the classroom. After a warm welcome from staff and students, Josh and Marcus were paired with groups as “BFC Teammates” for a series of team‑building challenges designed to spark leadership, communication, and decision‑making.
The room quickly filled with laughter and friendly competition as teams rotated through activities including a competitive game of the ‘Marshmallow / spaghetti Tower Challenge’ – a battle of patience and steady hands and the ‘Cup & Water Challenge’ – requiring coordination and trust!
With five teams competing, every point mattered, and the players threw themselves into the action, encouraging, motivating, and celebrating alongside the students.
The visit wrapped up with class photographs, autographs, and a Q&A, giving students the chance to ask about football, resilience, and life as a professional athlete. Josh and Marcus shared insights into their own journeys, reinforcing the programme’s message that potential can be unlocked with the right support and mindset.
The afternoon left a lasting impression on everyone involved, highlighting the power of football to inspire, connect, and create meaningful change in young people’s lives.
