120 Premier League Primary Stars Children take part in Show Racism the Red Card Event

On Tuesday 27th February, Burnley FC in the Community hosted over 120 children at their Show Racism the Red Card Event held at Turf Moor Stadium. Children from Brunshaw Primary School, Gisburn Road Primary School, and Holy Trinity RC Primary School engaged in impactful anti-racism and hate crime workshops facilitated by the Show Racism the Red Card Team.

In the morning, the children were honoured by a special visit from Burnley FC Legend, John Francis, who shared anecdotes from his time playing for Burnley FC and encouraged the children to envision a future that champions equality.

Later in the day, Head of Women’s Football Lola Ogunbote and Women’s First Team Captain Thea Paul made special guest appearances, inspiring the children to reflect on their potential roles in effecting change. We were also joined by the brilliant Ken Monkou!

Following the event one of our young people told us:

‘The people at the event educated us about racism and it’s effects. It was excellent being shown around the stadium. Thank you to all the staff for their time and effort. We were able to learn about racism and talk about it to our friends and family.’

Burnley FC in the Community would like to say a huge thank you to Show Racism the Red Card, John Francis, Ken Monkou and Burnley FC Women for being part of this fantastic event and helping us to make memories for our local children and teach them valuable lessons that they can use in their own futures.
