Veterans in Sport Standard

WHAT IS THE 'VETERAN IN SPORT STANDARD' (ViSS)?

As a department of a charity, we want to ensure that other Veteran departments within a Sports Charity feel confident in delivering sessions that support the needs of Veterans, their families and carers. That CCO’s have direct links to services in their local area and what internal resources they can utilise to reduce duplication and ensure a smooth journey with a positive outcome.

Burnley FC in the Community have 7 years of experience in delivering wellbeing opportunities for Veterans. We are a trusted charity with lived experiences staff and expertise in supporting the Armed Forces Community. For Organisations wanting to create, maintain or develop their knowledge on Veteran Projects in Sport, we offer one to one support, references for funding, memberships for necessary resources and support for signing Standards across the Military Community.

The Veterans in Sport Standard (ViSS) is a pledge to support Veteran participants in a sports environment. To widen your knowledge pool to be able to provide a high standard of care to your participants and demonstrate your commitment to working alongside other CCO’s.

Each CCO must show willingness to follow a provided template to either the same or a similar delivery pathway in order to cover all aspects of a successfully Veterans Programme, including Safeguarding Training, Mental Health Awareness, Diversity and Inclusion and veteran specific training.

We understand that each Programme will be at different stages of development and Burnley FC in the Community are here to assist and the support is demonstrated through ViSS.

WHY SHOULD YOU BE PART OF THE STANDARD AND HOW WILL YOU BENEFIT AS A CCO?

We are more than Sport, we are a ‘front door’ approach to helping the Military Community and the more Clubs pledging to fight this mission, we will accomplish widening support through sport.

  • Working with BFCitC and being part of the Veterans in Sports Standards (ViSS) is a visible and practical way to show that:
